Here are some actual letters written to Bud. BOY! He's been getting a lot lately! Do you have a question you'd like to ask? Or maybe you'd like to share a travel experience or snapshot of your own. Write to Bud, he'd love to hear from you!
That Bud is one seasoned traveller! Too bad we didn't see him when he
was in Juneau, we live right next to the Mendenhall Glacier -- coulda
offered some tea to warm him up.=)
Fun site!
Dear Fun Site (?),
I really liked Alaska a lot. In Juneau, I was told the best place to go see Bald Eagles was near the town dump. The people are very friendly there (I mean in Juneau - not just the dump, ha, ha). I don't drink tea, though. I also don't get cold much. Thanks anyway.
Sincerely, Bud
Oh, your peripatetic pal is SOOOOO cool! I LOVE what you've done. Am telling
all my pals to check Bud out!
Dear Lollidali,
Thanks!
Sincerely, Bud
I just wanted to write you a quick note and say congratulations. You are
famous now. (well kinda) I read about your travels in the May 2000 Yahoo
Internet Life. Just wondering though is there a lady mannequin in your
future? Also you might call Guiness book of records people. I am willing
to bet that no mannequin has seen as many places in the world as you have.
Dear MHIRick,
Wow, that is so neat. Yahoo Internet Life wrote to me to ask for permission to use some pictures (I said ok) but I didn't realize it was out on newstands already. Thanks for letting me know. The only lady mannekin in my life is my mom (I think), June. I hope to be reunited with her someday. Do you really think the Guinness Book of Records will put me in their book? Seems like a silly world record, not like the biggest hamburger or anything.
Sincerely, Bud
OMG! This is the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time. The funniest
thing is that this looks like something my brother and I would do! LOL.
Kuddos Bud.
hasta,
ile
Dear Ile,
I'm really glad you enjoyed my pictures and my reports. Do you and your brother like to travel too? When I travel, I enjoy meeting people the most. It is nice because almost everyone is laughing and having a good time. Some people just stare and shake their heads, though.
Sincerely, Bud
Any place that serves Fosters!
James
Dear James,
I don't drink beer. I look too young to buy it but when I do drink it (I've been at parties where people let me try it), it just leaks out and fills my shoes. I don't get why it is such a big deal! But my friends like it a lot so I suppose they'll drag me along. To each his own, I always say.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud,
wonder if you've thought about visiting the Qld outback? Guess you have.
You don't come this far and miss it.
It's a wonderous place with beautiful scenery. NAturally formed arches
and gorges make lovely photos.
The way of life here is so different to the city life, many people in the
city would live out here if they could.
I live in western Qld near a major town called Roma. If there is any info
you'd like on the area, please just let me know and I'll see if I can help.
Regards,
Patty
Dear Patty,
Oh yes, I want to visit the outback, as well as Sydney and Ayer's Rock. But Australia is so big! I found Roma on the map. Is the a particular arch or gorge you can recommend?
Sincerely, Bud
Hello!
I wrote last year when you first indicated that Bud would be in Australia.
Sydney is a place to avoid duribg the Olympics...Too expensive and everything
is booked out.
Come to Victoria and Melbourne instead.
Have Bud photographed outside the MCG (venue for the 1956 olympics)
Have Bud sit on a tram (unique to melbourne)
Have Bud photographed in Young and Jackson's pub next to the famous nude
photo of Chloe!
Glad to help you out.
Garry
Dear Garry,
Thanks for writing back and for the warning about Sydney during the Olympics! I will enjoy the tram but probably won't sit down on it because my knees don't bend. I'm usually not allowed inside pubs because I look too young to drink alcohol. Are there rules about stuff like that in Australia like there are in the United States?
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud,
I really enjoyed your pictures, and your site was very easy to navigate
through. I have a suggestion for your next trip after Australia, how about
South America ? I have relatives in Chile perhaps you can stay with them?
Such a dapper young man like you, I wouldn't see a problem. I do have to
say one thing about your pictures, I love your clean, crisp shirt. You certainly take care of yourself while traveling, is this the cause of a well packed garment bag?
Well Buddy boy, may customs never bother you, and may you always have a
window seat...
-Cristina
Los Angeles, California
Dear Christina,
I'm really glad you liked my pictures and website. I worked really hard on it. YES! South America has been on my list for a long time and Chile seems nice. What should I see when I go there? Thank you for the invitation to stay with your family, that is very nice!
Probably the main reason my shirts stay clean is that I don't sweat much. When I used to work as a mannequin I could wear the same shirt for weeks without even getting more than a only a couple of wrinkles in it. Though, when I was in Africa my shirts did get kind of grimy from the dust. When I was in the Caribbean I needed to wash the salt water out of my suit.
Usually the customs people have a sense of humor but one time they didn't.
Sincerely, Bud
Yes Bud do come!!!
Melbourne is a great place to visit. We have some of the most diverse
and large range of restaurants in Australia. You could say the same for
the music. I know a mannequin such as you, would love to meet our
politicians perhaps even take a snapshot with them! I hope you don't
have a wooden heart.
See you in the soup!!!
regards, Dr Bob.
Dear Dr. Bob,
I will try to see Melbourne when I go. I like restaurants and music and politicians very much. No, I don't have a wooden heart. Soup is okay but I don't want to stand in it. Is that something people in Melbourne do a lot?
Sincerely, Bud
Bud,
You have to go to Sweden man...
//Petra
Dear Petra,
I would love to visit Sweden. I have heard nice things about your country. What cool things do you think I should see and do when I get there? When is the best time of year to go? Does it get dark in winter?
Sincerely, Bud
If Bud wants to know where it's at in Australia, just point him at
city search and select Canberra, the national capital of
Australia. Bud could visit the National Parliament, and watch the bizarre
politicians squabble and argue. Bud could try and figure out the Prime
Minister's statement on the new GST (goods and services tax) under which
condoms will be tax free, because they are a necessity, but tampons are
taxed, because they are a luxury. Perhaps Bud would like to rent a car
and go for a drive, and work out first hand just who does have right of way
on one of the many roundabouts that grace that capital's road system. Or find
out why the best bus service in Australia has no passengers.
Yes, there's always something happening in Canberra. It's that sort of
place.
Norm Jones
Canberra, Australia
Dear Norm,
You sure make Canberra sound like a confusing place! I think it is interesting to learn about how government works, though. But I don't have to worry about paying tax on either of the things you wrote about because I don't ever use them.
I don't have a drivers license either but I do like to ride the bus. Thanks a lot for writing.
Sincerely, Bud
Hey Bud,
I found your website and really liked it. It seems you are quite the world
traveler! I know a person you would probably get along with. I have a
4-foot plastic wise man named Raul who is currently staying with me. I
graduated from a really small high school class (14 people), and, mischevious
little buggers that we were, we "borrowed" him from the stage after the
Christmas program. He's been many places during his time with us. We've
taken him to the mall and Chuck E. Cheese and he's currently living in
my dorm room at ASU. He likes to look out the window at the sorority houses
across the street. He really liked your page, too. Well, just wanted
to say hi.
Sincerely,
Carol Stern
Dear Carol,
I like it a lot when people write just to say, "Hi." It's very nice. You must feel very lucky to have Raul around. Wisemen give good advice, I think. Not wiseguys, though. Did Raul have a good time at the Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant? I went to a restaurant and ordered gazpacho soup. I didn't eat it, I just wanted to order something.
Sincerely, Bud
Hi Bud,
When are you next coming over to England? I would love to see you over
here again.
Simon Moore
Dear Simon,
I really like England. I think Stonehenge is really neat. I don't know when I will get back, though. There are so many other places I haven't been yet. If I could, I would just spend all my time travelling around the world but my friend says he needs to buy groceries and stuff. I don't eat so I sometimes forget about stuff like that.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud,
I just stumbled across your web site, and as my favorite cousin is named
Bud I had to investigate. What an adventurous guy you have been, and so
nice of you to share your experiences and knowledge with the rest of us
who don't travel much. My cousin Bud also travels alot, especially in
the United States. He and his wife are teachers so they have the summer
off. Last summer they visited 22 states, and took their 8 year old grandson
with them. I wish you could meet each other!
Sincerely,
Janet in Littleton, CO
Dear Janet,
Thank you. I'm not all that adventurous really; I just like to see new places. But maybe I'm more adventurous than most mannequins, though, I suppose. I have not met your cousin Bud while traveling yet. Gosh, twenty-two states is a lot! Does he teach geography?
Sincerely, Bud
hi again,
I hope you remember me. I instant messaged you on AOL. Well,
I finally got my page up. Tell me what you think if your
not too busy. I've attached a picture to this message from
my page. What are you doing this weekend?? be safe,
Sasha
Dear Sasha,
No, I don't remember but that's ok. A lot of people write to me all the time even though I'm a mannequin and am 12 years old (I think I am anyway, my friend says I look like that's how old I am). You're picture is nice, do you like cheerleading? This weekend I'll be thinking about where I want to travel next, how about you?
Sincerely, Bud
Your right.
This was not supposed to have gone to your address. I hope you weren't offended by the 'theme' of the site. Please accept my apologies and delete.
Dear Sasha,
Okay.
Sincerely, Bud
Quite unutterably pathetic. Melt it down (under)...
G. Kidstong (UK)
Dear G,
Please don't feel sorry for me. I think being a mannequin isn't so bad and I like traveling. Anyway, there are some things we can't change about ourselves, so I think the best thing is to accept them and make the best of them. Thanks for writing, though.
Sincerely, Bud
Bud,
See NZ defend the Americas Cup In Auckland and see once again how the great southern man rules the waves.
Adriaan (in New Zealand)
Dear Adriaan,
I'm don't think I'll be in New Zealand for the America's Cup race, which is a shame. Sailing is a great sport and I don't ever get seasick. I don't know which team will win but I do know the winning boat will be the one that crosses finish line first. But don't count the USA out just yet, though. It is called the AMERICA'S CUP, after all.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud;
Really enjoy your wonderful website. Are there any plans in the near future
for a visit to Japan? If you visit Tokyo, please look us up. We don't
have alot of room in our apartment but it looks as if you can sleep standing
up so it shouldn't be a problem.
Cheers,
Denton Venable and Michiyo Shimoyama
Dear Denton and Michiyo,
I'm glad you liked my travelogue. I am not planning a trip to Tokyo soon but really I do want to see it sometime. I think Japan must be a beautiful country. The food is pretty too. It is very nice of you to offer a place in your small apartment for me to stand.
Sincerely, Bud
Looking at your photos and reading about your travels made my day. There
is nothing like a good giggle first thing in the morning. I admire your
fortitude as traveling can be quite tiring, especially always standing
up. Have fun on your next adventure.
B
Dear B,
It's really nice to make someone's day! I'm glad I was able to do it for you. Yes, traveling is hard work sometimes but it is always worth it to see new places and meet new people. I don't mind standing up too much. Actually, sitting down is much worse for me because my legs don't bend.
Sincerely, Bud
I was wondering if you were able to get a business loan for this and use it as a tax write off. What a way of getting around, maybe he should have a buddette traveling around the world. Nice slide show.
Robin in Wash.
Dear Robin,
I glad you liked the slide show. I put that in as a fun way to just see the pictures without having to learn anything. Because I'm made of Fiberglas I don't have to pay taxes so having a tax write off doesn't do me any good, I think. But I don't pay for the airfare either, my friends do that for me. Isn't that nice of them? I'm not sure if they pay taxes but I suppose they do, though. I'm an only child mannequin, I don't have any brothers or sisters.
Sincerely, Bud
Make this one unique and give us the beauty of New Zeland too--
Thank you if you can and let me know??
Dee
Don't know much about the "outback"--what is it really like?
Enjoyed you're pictures!~
Dear Dee,
I will be going to New Zealand also. Though, I probably will not be able to see the America's Cup race. I'm glad you enjoyed my travel pictures.
Sincerely, Bud
Hi Bud,
Well I hadn't written for quite some time as I had gone for the
holidays. Diwali the festival of lights was on 7th nov. I hope you know about
diwali. Well that day each and every home is lighted up and crackers are
burst. Acoording to legend that was the day that God Rama came back
victorious after defeating Ravana at Ceylon. Ravana had carried off Sita
RAma's wife while they were in Exile.
This festival also marks the coming of the goddesss of wealth Lakshmi. It seems she only comes to the houses which are lighted so everyone lights earthern diyas(lamps),to light the way. I think in america too there is a similar day when lanters are lit. But I don't know for what reason exactly.
Bye, Padmaja
Dear Padmaja,
Your town must be quite beautiful, all lit up like that. In England, on November 5th, they celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with fireworks and burn a straw dummy who looks like Guy Fawkes. It is a tradition to carry around the dummy and ask for money. When I was there people were giving me pennies all day long. Isn't that funny?
In America we celebrate Halloween on October 31st. On that day we hollow out pumpkins and gourds, carve faces into them and put candles inside. Children dress up in scary costumes and go from house to house trying to scare the people inside into giving them candy.
Sincerely, Bud
