Here are MORE actual letters written to Bud. Do you have a question you'd like to ask? Or maybe you'd like to share a travel experience or snapshot of your own. Write to Bud, he'd love to hear from you!
Dear Bud,
I recently met your "creator" (sounds like Frankenstein) at George Mason
University in Fairfax, VA where I am a studio arts major. Although
disappointed he didn't bring you along (you should yell at him for that) I
enjoyed looking at the pictures of your travels and am so impressed that
you actually got money to travel! You are an inspiration and I hope you
keep it up. Do you enjoy art? Your website is very creative- perhaps you
could design them for a living!
Your friend, Jen
Dear Jen,
I can't yell at him because I can't open my mouth. I am sorry to miss meeting you too! I'm glad you liked looking at the pictures and I hope I am an inspiration for you to visit other places and people like I do. I like art okay. I don't need to earn a living.
Sincerely, Bud
(the following is a letter from Bud to his Mom after he found a story about her on the net)
Dear Mother,
I am so excited I can't believe it! I've found you at long last! Gosh, hitchhiking across the United States -that sounds so exciting. And dangerous too. I won't try it till I'm older. You always were so independent, though. Traveling must be in our blood. I've been going everywhere too but I travel with my friend. I have lots of pictures of me all over the world. People always ask me why I travel so much and I never said why, really. I've been really searching for you.
I love you and miss you. Please write.
Your son, Bud
(here is the reply, which hasn't been shown to Bud in its entirety)
Don't let on to Bud that June's whereabouts are still unknown after all these years. Just tell him his Mother is so proud of him and the Global PR he's doing. Tell him she thinks he looks very self-assured and relaxed (something she found hard to be), and without a stand, too! Just think how close they must have been while he was in the Nevada desert. Next year, Burning Man? Or has that gotten too Mainstream?
Give Bud his Mother's love,
S. Ireland
Dearest Bud,
Your pictures are outstanding! You must feel lucky to have such fine photographers snapping shots of your smooth mug! I especially like the underwater shot in the Virgin Islands.
I suggest you visit Greece. I'd love to see you at the Acropolis, or in Santorini on a donkey...
Enjoy your travels. Thanks for letting the world in on the fun through
your web page.
Regards,
Marian L. Savige
Dear Marian,
I'm glad you like my snap shots. Many people have traveled with me and helped take the pictures over the years. I've heard wonderful things about Greece and would love to take a trip there someday. I've seen pictures of the Acropolis and it is beautiful. I don't know about riding a donkey, though.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud,
If you ever feel like spending some time in the front window of my store, let me know!
Thanks!
Scott Huffines, Atomic Books
Dear Scott,
Gosh, it has been a long time since I've worked. I am not even sure if I've still got the knack. I've been thinking of making some postcards of my better photos, though. Which ones do you like? Perhaps if you had them in your store, I could help promote them. Thank you so much for visiting my site, do you like to travel too?
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud,
I really wanted I had been travalling as much as you, but I think you missed one of the most wonderfull countries, Friesland (I live there). That is a northern part of the Netherlands. You have been in the west of the Netherlands and they did not tell you about Friesland there because they are jalous (of course!!).
We also have the best cheese here. And the nicest people. Many dutch from the west do often come here for hollydays, the opposit you seldom see. That's evidence. Maybe we'll see you here in the next future, I also have a very nice daughter.
Marieke
Dear Marieke,
The next time I travel to Europe I promise to visit Friesland, you make it sound great. Can I stay with you? Your daughter and I could play together.
Sincerely, Bud
Hey, Bud
You sure look RESPECTABLE in your suit, there. I am so glad that we have respectable-looking ambassadors of goodwill to our friendly foreign neighbors south of us; you never know, they could be COMMUNISTS, though (watch out!!!) I was wondering how you learned about the peyote enemas; did one of the locals tell you about it? Did you see the equinox?
Though I've never been to South of the Border, I love Mexican food ,too. The sombrero looked really cool. Hey, what kind of snake did you get at the Gift Shop?
Ricardo
Dear Ricardo,
Thank you, I always try to look my best. I believe first impressions are important and I want the rest of the world to know how nice and well dressed United States citizens are. I don't worry about communists if they are polite. Nobody told me about Mayan history, I had to look it up in a book.
Pedro's is a fun place! I got a rubber snake, not a real one.
Sincerely, Bud
helo, Bud!
I am kommuinstye person from Latinye Amerika and friend of Ricardo. I am wery nice person. Komunistye are wery nice piples, and polite too. I am glad you like kommunistye politeness persons. I do to. Like them. Polite piplse. You seem polite.
Das vedanye!
Max
(friend of Ricardo)
Dear Max,
Your accent is very hard for me to understand. I haven't taken any languages in school yet. Fortunately for me, people in other countries often speak English better than I. Somedays, I don't speak at all.
Sincerly, Bud
Bud...
you have changed my life. This is the creepiest site I have *EVER* seen on the web and I mean that in the best possible way.
Good luck on your future travels...
Christopher
Dear Christopher,
I hope I've encouraged you to travel and meet nice people. The creepiest place I've ever been was a coal mine in Beckley, W. Virginia.
Sincerly, Bud
Ok, this is it. I have found love at long last.
I want Bud to be my husband.
I've fallen completely head over heels.
That face, that casual stance...
He's the one for me.
I'll go to bed dreaming of him tonight.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
Bet
Dear Bet,
I hope you sleep well. I am not ready to get married yet but someday I might want to. You seem very nice.
Sincerely, Bud
Hey Bud!
Loved your webpage. You have travelled more than most people I know. It is unbelievable. Do you ever take a friend along? I was wondering, where do you live at when not travelling? Are you from Baltimore and do you go to Medfield Heights Elementary? The Second grade teacher there suggested we check out your webpage. Anyway, have a great time on your next trip!
Yours friends,
Michele and Norma
Dear Michele and Norma,
Yes, I live in Baltimore, Maryland in the USA. It is on the East coast and has a harbor on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a beautiful city. The nickname is "Charm City," isn't that nice? I recently talked about my travels with the second grade class there. The kids knew so much about geography I was very impressed.
Sincerely, Bud
